Mini Dental Implants in Fairfax, VA

Mini dental implants are a minimally invasive procedure used for both removable and fixed restorations. They are smaller and more compact due to its one-piece design, but just as strong as a traditional dental implant.

A mini implant consists of a miniature sized titanium implant that acts like the root of your tooth. On the top of the implant sits a retaining fixture that snaps into a corresponding fixture on your denture. The result is a more comfortable, stable denture that enables you to enjoy life without worrying about your teeth.

Mini dental implants are minimally invasive, which results in fewer office visits, less time undergoing procedures and recovering, and more importantly, less pain. Because they are smaller, they can fit into the existing bone of a patient, so healing occurs much more quickly. They also reduce the need for additional bone surgeries, which are often required for implant placement. Unlike traditional implants, mini dental implants are one-piece, therefore saving money as well. This makes it ideal for busy young professionals, as well as elderly patients who are medically compromised.

Mini Implant Procedure

Dr. Cho places mini implants from the convenience of our Fairfax dental office. He is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and has placed many traditional and mini dental implants in his nearly 20 year of practice.

A mini implant is done “flapless,” meaning there is no cutting of gum tissue. A surgical guide is pre-made from a CT scan. Using a surgical guide, a “pilot hole” (very small hole, about 1.5 mm in diameter) is made into the bone, and then a small implant is threaded into the bone. No cutting of gum tissue and no osteotomy (cutting of lots of bone) and its mechanical retention enables us to leave the blood supply intact and makes the healing and osseointegration much quicker and immediate loading of the restoration a predictable and successful procedure.

We recommend brushing with an electric toothbrush and using a water flosser to keep your mini implant and restoration, as well as the rest of your natural teeth, clean and healthy. Continue visiting Braddock Family Dental for professional cleanings and exams every six months, and you can rest assured that your smile will last a lifetime.
